Objectively speaking, my life up until now would probably be categorized as a quiet one. From childhood to adulthood, I have no particular regrets about having consistently chosen the safe path.

...Or perhaps. It may have just been so bland and odorless that there was no point in even feeling regret.

We’d greet each other if we met in the morning, and if invited during lunch break, we’d enjoy a game of catch... that was about it. As for holding hands on the way to and from our game of catch... I’ll force that into the category of being good friends. And as for my private messages with Togawa-san... also in that category.

If I turn a blind eye to the part where quite a lot seems to be happening, I can say that a not-so-different daily life has returned.

However, even in these unchanging days, there are slight changes.

I feel like the number of times I make eye contact with Togawa-san in the classroom has increased. At unexpected moments, our gazes align perfectly, as if interlocking. At times like that, Togawa-san’s usual relaxed smile breaks even further, and she’ll smile at me with her slightly narrowed eyes. At those times, Togawa-san’s eyes are always sparkling, and then, seeing my confusion, she looks away as if satisfied.

I can’t grasp what Togawa-san puts into that smile.

Just as it is difficult for me to accurately put into words what I think of Togawa-san, perhaps it is also hard for Togawa-san herself to explain what she thinks of me.

That meant that it wasn’t just Togawa-san; I was also following her with my eyes.
